Bath Abbey is of unusual interest as the last great Church to be built in the perpendicular period and designed in the most English of all architectural styles by Robert and William Vertue, who were friends of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. Today, the Abbey with it's 162 foot tower still stands like a guardian angel in the centre of the city. This album of Christmas Carols was recorded at Bath Abbey with the Abbey Choir, who are well known for their many BBC broadcasts. The director of music is J. Dudley Holroyd, who succeeded the post of organist and Master of Choristers in September 1967. The choir consists of 18 boys plus 4 probationers and 12 Lay-clerks. There is no choir school and the whole choir is drawn from the city. The organist is Raymond Jones who is the assistant organist at the Abbey. TRACKLISTING: 1. Once In Royal David's City 2.
